What a great start to Journey 20!
First an epic choc-mint shake and eggs benny with past colleague & friend Mel and her partner Micheal in Bunbury, then straight to my favourite stomping ground for four-wheels along Balingup-Nannup Rd with the top down, despite the 39c temperature but this familiar and challenging route is just as stunning in summer as it is in winter!
Quick bite in Nannup then off to Bunker Bay after Michael’s recommendation, as opposed to Meelup Beach and thank goodness I chose Bunker Bay, relatively quiet beach, great cafe for lunch plus calm and cool waters.

Time always flies once in the water so it was a quick sprint down twisty Caves Road past numerous wineries – save that for another visit – to Hamelin Bay, another last minute detour, instead of Augusta and Leeuwin, with the waters much warmer here and strangely the weather went cool down to 22c, quite a contrast!

Time running as the sun began to dip, it was a quick dash to Pemberton, the most memorable highlight is both the beautiful aroma of the gigantic Karri forest trees that tower above the road, while the golden sunset light bled through with rays in between, a stunning sight.

Looking forward to more fresh air tomorrow with the best of the forests and southern coast to come, stay tuned!
